The Shirvanian Youth Center Redesign

The Shirvanian Youth Center, located in Gyumri, Armenia, serves as a dynamic and vibrant hub, essential for nurturing and empowering the city's young population. Gyumri, known for its rich cultural heritage and strong sense of community, proves an ideal setting for such a center.

AKDA was honored to team up with Engineer Armenia, a non-profit organization devoted to provide architectural design services in an effort to rejuvenate the Shirvanian Youth Center.

This cherished establishment, a symbol of strength, endured partial damage during the devastating 1988 Armenian earthquake. In this ambitious endeavor, we embarked on a journey to reimagine the outdoor expanse, infusing it with a sense of purpose and vibrance. Our vision encompasses an array of thoughtful elements, such as amphitheater seating that fosters community gatherings, a generous firepit where warmth and

camaraderie thrive, inviting picnic tables, and a serene citrus garden that pays homage to the region's rich culture. A harmonious blend of nature and functionality emerges, offering a tranquil picnic area, embraced by the allure of lush landscaping. Together, we devote ourselves to restoring the Shirvanian Youth Center as an inspiring haven, kindling the growth and creativity of Gyumri's young generation.

Established with the vision of fostering social, cultural, and educational development, the Shirvanian Youth Center plays a pivotal role in providing a safe and inclusive space where young people can come together to explore their interests and talents. A primary objective of the center is to promote formal and informal education by hosting a variety of workshops, seminars, and training sessions. These activities cover diverse subjects such as arts, sciences, technology, entrepreneurship, and life skills, equipping the youth with valuable knowledge and abilities, enabling them to actively contribute to their country's growth.

Furthermore, the Shirvanian Youth Center places significant emphasis on nurturing arts and culture. In a city renowned for its artistic heritage, the center acts as a platform for young artists, musicians, writers, and performers to showcase their talents and engage in cultural exchange. This not only helps preserve Armenian culture but also fosters a strong sense of pride and identity among the city's youth. Beyond education and culture, the center actively encourages social engagement and community involvement. Through hosting social initiatives, volunteer programs, and awareness campaigns, young people are motivated to give back to society and address local challenges, instilling a sense of responsibility and compassion. In addition to its local impact, the Shirvanian Youth Center facilitates connections with the broader international community. Collaborations with other youth centers, organizations, and institutions globally promote cross-cultural understanding and international cooperation.

Overall, the SYC stands as a testament to the power of investing in the youth. By providing them with resources, support, and opportunities, the center plays a vital role in shaping the future of the city and the country. Its commitment to education, arts, and community engagement creates a positive and nurturing environment where young individuals can thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.
